a good friend of mine shared this tip with me, it works so try it, Never "rub" or "scrub" red wine stain on carpets. This does two things, first it rubs the stain into the carpet instead of blotting the red wine stain out of the carpet and secondly it frays the natural and synthetic fibers of the carpet.

The longer a stain sits, the more it will set and removing wine stains becomes hard. If there is not enough time to use a home remedy mixture to remove the red wine stains on carpets, pour salt or club soda on the stain to prevent the red wine stain from setting into the carpet.

Salt is a classic remedy for red wine stains on carpets. Salt can be used for removing wine stains when the stain is still fresh. When the red wine stain is still fresh, cover with regular iodinated table salt until the salt is no longer absorbing the stain. The salt will change color. Allow the salt to dry and vacuum the stain away. However, this method does not work with all red wine stains on carpets all of the time.

For removing red wine stains on carpets, salt can be considered a safe remedy in a pinch. It does not work on dried red wine stains. If the salt method does not work, it is acceptable and safe to use any of the following methods below, however, do not use all of the methods and mixtures at once.

Baking soda is an old fashioned remedy for removing wine stains, but it should be used when the stain is fresh. First, blot the area with cold water and a light cotton or natural fiber cloth. This will keep the red wine stain from setting. Mix a paste with three tablespoons of baking soda to one tablespoon of water (or use cups if you have a huge stain). Apply the paste to the red wine stain and allow it to dry. It will be crumbled and light red when the past is dry. Vacuum the red wine stain away.

Club soda is the most well known method of removing wine stains. Club soda is basically water, carbon dioxide and salt. Because it has a mild acidity, club soda removes the color of the stain. As with salt, club soda does not work all the time on all types of materials to remove red wine stains from carpets. It works best when quickly applied to synthetic materials that do not soak up red wine stains as quickly as natural fibers. Club soda can also be used after the salt and baking soda methods
